Imants Ziedonis (1933–2013) was one of Latvia’s most influential poets and writers, and his quote "Zieds ir tikpat liels kā jūra" (A flower is as vast as the sea) expresses a simple yet powerful idea: the significance of something is not determined by its size, but by the meaning and attention we give it.
Nothing is insignificant. In architecture, engineering, construction and manufacturing, as in life itself, meaning lies in the attention we give to things, moments and people. Because to truly notice something is to give it importance - and at the heart of it all is respect.
When we understand that a flower, an ant and a word can be as immense as the sea, they take on a much greater significance. At the same time, the seemingly vast sea of problems becomes smaller.
UPB approach to sustainability reflects this very sense of respect for the world around us. Even the smallest things can hold the depth and significance of the sea.
Nothing is insignificant - every detail has its place and its meaning. And what matters must be preserved.
