Glass-fibre reinforced concrete (GRC) at UPB group

The versality of the glass-fibre reinforced concrete (GRC) makes it very suitable for ambitious and complex façade designs. Unique shapes and textures, flexibility in design, reduced weight, durability – these are just a few of many GRC advantages. It is also environmentally friendly as it can reduce the CO2 emissions due to material savings and reduced transportation costs and emissions.

GRC is made from a mixture of cement, aggregates, high-strength alkali resistant glass-fibres and other components. This blend of concrete together with the chopped glass-fibres is what ensures the GRC’s high-performance and gives numerous benefits, such as:

  • Endless variations of shapes, for even the most ambitious designs
  • Wide range of finishing options – terazzo, bricks, exposed aggregate and different variations of textures and colours
  • Lower weight on load-bearing constructions
  • Low maintenance
  • Durability
  • Fire-proof
  • Corrosion-proof
  • Material savings on superstructure and foundation
  • Lower environmental impact and CO2 emissions
  • Reduced transportation costs
  • Quick and easy installation on site
  • And more!

GRC is perfect for exterior cladding – building’s facades and envelopes. This versatile material will surely allow you to create a façade to remember! Furthermore, it is also widely used in bridges, tunnels, and other infrastructure objects.

At UPB group, we are producing GRC products in our new, advanced concrete factory. Our group’s concrete manufacturer Dzelzsbetons MB is also a full member of The International Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete Association – this membership demonstrates that we have the resources to produce high-quality GRC.

At our factory, GRC is casted with the spray technique – spraying the concrete blend together with the chopped glass fibres into the mould with a specialized spray-gun, that ensures the right amount of fibres and concrete are mixed together. The first layer forms the surface of the panel, following by layers of GRC.
