Previous weekend from May 10 to 11 in Slesin, Poland, was held the 2014 European Championship in S-550 powerboat class and 1st round of Polish Open Championship.
Total in European Championship took part 12 participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Ukraine and Russia. Latvia was represented by Mārtiņš Bergholcs (“Liepāja powerboat club UPB Energy”), Raimonds Špacs (Alūksne, “NordOst”) and Kristaps Paegle (Bauska, “Mēmeles sports”).
Coming up to the last 4th round of the race M. Bergholcs had already secured the leading position. However, to win the championship, he needed to safeguard the advantage over the Lithuanian sportsman that was in the 2nd place. Starting the 4th round M. Bergholcs crashed, he didn’t get any serious injury. Official judges, because of bad weather, decided not to continue with race, and M. Bergholcs become the European Champion. The Lithuanian Laimutis Morkunas ended up in 2nd place and Lukašs Čioleks from Poland earned 3rd place. Raimonds Špacs ranked 6th, but Kristaps Paegle – 7th.
