In 2011, UPB Holding was one of the participants of the EBA competition; having won 15,000 companies from 30 states, it got into the final and received the Ruban d’Honneur award and a medal.
EBA is the largest business award programme in Europe, and its main sponsor is HSCB bank. Every year EBA evaluates the most successful European companies that have gained good results in their commercial activities, innovations, and business ethics. Finalists are evaluated in 11 categories, and many world-famous companies have been among the finalists, like Pirelli, RTL, DHL, IKEA in Italy, and many others.
Uldis Pīlēns the Founder and Chairman of the Board at UPB Holding, is also known as architect, entrepreneur and public figure. He has studied architecture at Riga Polytechnic Institute and afterwards at Bauhaus University in Weimar. Uldis Pīlēns has been the head of Latvian Design Centre and Liepāja City Chief Architect for 5 years, and one of the founders of Liepāja Special Economic Zone. For his work and services to Latvia he has received The Order of Three Stars (4th Class).
