In mid-June, Mārtiņš Morozs, a UPB ENERGY pilot, gained a confident victory in a very fierce competition in Alūksne, thus winning the European Cup. Prior to that, M. Morozs’s major achievement had been the bronze medal in the European Cup in 2006. Before, Artūrs Brolītis of the UPB ENERGY team had twice become the champion. This year, he starts competition in the S-550 category in the Latvian Cup. It should be noted that youth competition had been very stiff thanks to the fact that 24 pilots applied for the participation in the European Cup, but since the regulations only allow 20 participants in one track, 7 qualification contests were held on the first day of the competition, during which 20 lucky ones were chosen who would be able to participate in final contest and struggle for the European Cup’s golden medal. Simultaneously, European Cup in S-550 category was held in Berlin, in which there contended Lauris Gūtmanis of UPB ENERGY, and he won the bronze medal. The previous weekend was tense for UPB ENERGY team members, who won a victory at the Fifth Latvian Open Cup in Jelgava, thus becoming one of the leaders in the total team classification.
