| 22. 05. 2007 | UPB ENERGY Power boat team makes a successful start

On 20 May, in the presence of a number of spectators, the first stage of Latvia Open Cup in power boat racing was given a start in Liepāja consisting of exciting competitions, and the members of the newly formed UPB Energy team won the second prize in the team classification. UPB Energy pilots were the winners 6 times, and won the 1st prize twice - Mr. Mārtiņš Bergholcs in S-550 category and Oļegs Kutepovs in O-500 category, 2nd prize - for three times, Mārtiņš Morozs in the JT-250 category, Ēriks Ķiepe-Kipge in O-500 category, in total team classification, as well as the third prize won by Gatis Gibners in the
T-550 category. Superb performance was delivered by Artūrs Brolītis, who had been a double European champion in the youth category, and on Sunday, he completed his first competition in motorboat in S-550 category, struggling for one of the first three prizes. This year S-550 category could boast the greatest number of participants. Thus the sportspeople are preparing for the World Cup in S-550 category, to be held in late August, and Mārtiņš Bergholcs of the UPB Energy club, the winner of the competition’s Liepāja stage, will be struggling for the prize. The UPB ENERGY team is behind the water sports club JŪRMALA in the team classification (90 points), behind by 5 points, and the third place is won by the club PAISUMS of Jelgava. The competition gathered the total of 35 pilots who represented 5 Latvian teams, as well as sportspeople from Estonia. The first stage of the World Cup, for which an active preparation has been taking place, will take place on 1 to 3 June in Germany. The following stage of Latvia’s World Cup and the Baltic Cup is to be held on 9 - 10 June in Lithuania.
