In 2006, the net turnover of MB BETONS group, a part of the AS UPB holding, was an estimated 17,400,000 Latvian lats, which is an increase by 84% compared with 2005, when the net turnover was LVL 9,500,000. The 2005 turnover exceeded the 2004 results by 66%. The increase of the turnover was largely accounted for by the implementation of major prefabricated concrete projects abroad as well as expansion of activities in the ready-mix concrete and inert materials sector in the Latvian regions.
In 2006, MB BETONS group operated at the major sites abroad, mainly in the Scandinavian countries, to which prefabricated concrete structures were delivered. The following projects were completed: Visby Congress/Concert Hall, Prologis logistics centre, commercial centre Astra Tech in Sweden; The Royal Library in Copenhagen, the multi-storey commercial premises and multi-apartment complex Nyvej in Denmark, several large apartment residential house complexes in Denmark, Norway and other projects.
The projects still underway: office premises and multi-apartment complex Osbrocentret, Denmark, apartment house complex Askheim, Norway and other projects, for which various prefabricated concrete products are manufactured and delivered.
MB BETONS group’s major ready-mix concrete projects in Latvia in the year 2006 are: Madona Sports Complex, AS Balticovo, AS Bauskas piens, AS Valmieras stikla šķiedra, AS Valmieras piens and AS Cēsu alus plant improvement as well as other projects. In 2006, two MB BETONS-owned series of prefabricated house series were developed, of which one was carried out in Liepāja, and a larger complex is now in development in Ogre.
In 2006, MB BETONS group, by way of implementing its development strategy, launched the quarrying development chain across Latvia. By expanding operation in the Latgale region, in autumn, the inert materials production company IMS Latgale in Daugavpils was purchased. In 2006, MB BETONS group acquired one of Latvia’s most state-of-the-art accredited laboratories Concrete Research Centre. In mid-2006, construction of the fourth stage of the plant DZELZSBETONS MB, a part of MB BETONS group, was completed in Liepāja, as a result of which the plant is capable of providing a full range of prefabricated concrete structures for public, industrial and residential buildings. DZELZSBETONS MB products exports have reached 50% of the amount of produced prefabricated concrete.
In 2006, the plant DZELZSBETONS MB was awarded ISO 9001:2000 certificate, which proves the compliance of the plant’s quality management system to the international standard. Certification of prefabricated products according to the EU unified standards (LVS EN 1168:2005 and LVS EN 13225:2005) has been carried out, which enables to mark products with a CE mark as well as Denmark’s standards DS/EN 206-1:2002 and DS 2426:2004. In 2007, the strategic goal of MB BETONS group provides for the investment of 5 million lats investments in the opening of new ready-mix concrete plants, while the expansion of the quarrying development chain across Latvia is in progress.
MB BETONS group comprises the ready-mix concrete plants in Liepāja and Daugavpils, inert materials development and processing companies IMS and IMS Latgale, five stationary ready-mix concrete production units in Liepāja, Jelgava, Valmiera, Talsi and Daugavpils, a mobile concrete plant Cobra as well as the Concrete Research Centre.
