| 07. 07. 2008 | MB BETONS group opens a new ready-mix concrete production unit in Ventspils

On 4 July 2008, the new ready-mix concrete production unit VENTSPILS MB was officially opened, it being the eighth MB BETONS group’s stationary ready-mix concrete plant in Latvia. MB BETONS group is Latvia’s leader in terms of the amount of produced ready-mix concrete. In the five-month period of 2008, the turnover of MB BETONS group was 9 million LVL, and the consolidated turnover in 2007 was 26.9 million LVL. MB BETONS group celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year.

„In spite of the general [disadvantageous] economic situation in the country, MB BETONS group in its tenth year of operation continues to ambitiously carry out its development plans. The production plant in Ventspils has just been launched, and the construction of a new ready-mix concrete plant in Ādaži is in progress.
Concerning production of ready-mix concrete, the following has to be taken into consideration: the closer to the consumer the plant is located, the smaller are expenses and the better the market is organised. The opening of two new plants enables MB BETONS group to cover all Latvia’s regions. Deliveries of ready-mix concrete to the neighbouring Lithuania have been on the rise as well.

At the time of expanding the network of inert materials mines, in 2008, we have founded the company IMS Vidzeme, where new state-of-the-art gravel development technologies have been introduced", – Mr. Normunds Horsts, chair of the board of the MB BETONS group, said.

At present VENTSPILS MB produces and supplies ready-mix concrete to such sites as a refrigerating complex in the area of Ventspils port, renovation of the theatre Jūras vārti; to be started soon: operation on the shopping-centre „Mājai un Dārzam” in Ventspils, Pārostas library etc.

Along with the development of the concrete plant network in Latvia, MB BETONS group’s precast concrete plants has been continuing their active exporting operation, operating in Scandinavia and entering the Lithuanian and Russian markets. Precast concrete products have now been supplied to important export projects, such as the warehousing complexes Levisonsvej and Skydebane-Arhus, a number of apartment house complexes in Denmark; a warehousing complex Tyreso, a technical college Teknikcollege, the school Hogskolan, the shopping centre Hagaby in Sweden etc.

MB BETONS group comprises two precast concrete plants - DZELZSBETONS MB in Liepāja and Daugavpils Dzelzsbetons as well as stationary ready-mix concrete plants LIEPĀJAS MB, JELGAVAS MB, VALMIERAS MB, TALSU MB, MBD (in Daugavpils), SALDUS MB, RĒZEKNES MB, VENTSPILS MB, construction of the ready-mix concrete production unit ĀDAŽU MB is in progress at the moment, the mobile concrete plant Cobra, inert materials development and processing companies IMS, IMS Latgale, IMS Vidzeme, as well as The Centre for Concrete Research.
